Rootsy, gutsy, and occasionally confused--sexually ("Sharlene") as well as mythologically ("Pure Heart"). The Seeds wore their hearts on their sleeves and then took their shirts off.

There is no way around the deadpan brilliance of Hall's songwriting, which describes with rare, unforced wit and a hint of Texas twang the pleasuresand particularly the penalties of Life Among the Humans.
